Siem Reap War Museum

War Museum Cambodia – Siem Reap

The War Museum Cambodia, located in Siem Reap along National Road No. 6 near the Cambodian Cultural Village, offers visitors a powerful insight into Cambodia’s turbulent past. The museum houses an extensive collection of military equipment, including aircraft, tanks, artillery, landmines, and rifles—many of which were used during Cambodia’s decades of conflict.

Although the exhibits are weathered by time, they remain a striking reminder of the nation’s struggles. Visitors can explore the grounds and view relics from the Cambodian Civil War and the Khmer Rouge era, gaining a deeper understanding of the country’s resilience and history.

Meet Akira – The Man Behind the Museum

The museum is run by Mr. Akira, who was tragically forced to join the Khmer Rouge as a child and trained to make and lay landmines. In 1985, after the Vietnamese-installed government intervened, he was rescued and went on to dedicate his life to clearing landmines and raising awareness of their devastating impact.

Akira is a friendly host who speaks both English and Japanese. Visitors often find his personal stories deeply moving, as they provide a human connection to Cambodia’s past struggles.
